Development of Dry Land Agriculture in Imphal West District.
The project was undertaken to grow and popularize an extinct rare rice plant called Chak-hou Poreition and among the farming community thereby reinforcing the heritage of growing this traditional rice variety and improving the socio-economic condition in the project area. They also attempted to conserve/preserve rare species of crops and improve the natural agricultural farming system by adopting organic farming, and also mobilizing bio-resources like biofertilisers, biopesticides, etc. through women SHG activities. Awareness programmes were held on organic farming and other conservation practices. The beneficiaries chosen were from among the lower economic class and their lands were used for implementing the project activities.

The project served the following objectives
? To motivate the farmers by giving traditional training and exposure.
? To conserve/ preserve non-exhausting crops from being eroded.
? To improve the socio-economic condition of the poor farmers.

Capacity - Building Component
? Collection of seeds ? Organization of self help groups (SHGs) units, farmers? training etc was formed ? Composit pit made by 120 farmers ? Implementation of rice crop vegetations and pre-kharif crops plantation was undertaken ? Provision of tools and equipment and revolving fund facilities to selected farmers ? Organization of awareness camps and farmer?s training-cum workshops ? Formation of project level committee , making rules and regulations and opening up of joint banks
Gender Focus
All the beneficiaries under the project are women. There are 120 selected women self-help group members comprising 10 to 20 participants each. A sub committee constitutes of 7 members (5 from SHG and 2 from RRO) helped implement the project in a progressive way and proper utilization of revolving fund etc.
