Planting indigenous trees on farm woodlots coupled with planting mulberries for rearing silkworms by 300 farmers in Rusinga Island
300 farmers will set up woodlots on their farms including mulberry trees for silk production. The goal is to decrease pressure on the forest of the Island and to provide another source of income for the farmers. Activities: Identify 300 farmers willing to participate, train the farmers in seedling husbandry, purchase 50% of seedlings for the farmers while they purchase the other 50% (100,000 seedlings), provide barbed wire and poles for fencing while the community provides labour, poles and wooden sticks for goat proofing the fencing
Engage 50 of the 300 in sericulture.
