Yonki Lake Catchments Area Reforestation & Sedimentation Control Project
The proponent was awarded a planning grant to fully develop this proposal under project PNG49/03. The NSC awarded the full grant after the project proposal was refined. Basically, the project involves the reforestation and awareness activities to demonstrate to the local villagers, and staff/families of the power plant of the sedimentation buildup at the dam, reforestat the areas around the dam, engage the local communities in eco tourism activities etc.

The Yonki Dam is the source of food, water and other uses for the local people. Their dependence on it is very vital. Their support too is also vital. This project will look at addressing this issue to mobilize the local resources available and coordinate how best they can address this issue.
