Potential global benefits of the project
Thanks to the project the relict forest in Kapchigay tract were rehabilitated through planting walnut saplings, organizing forest nursery, pasture regulation, allocation of plots among the local population.
Link the practice of sustainable livelihoods to a GEF focal area
The population is going to receive profit from nuts, and harvest of fast-growing fruit trees sampled between walnut tress in order to improve percentage of taken roots nut trees.
Community driveness of the project
The local population agrees to stop economic activity, which interfered to renewal forest vegetation (tillage and grazing) and disturbed stability of a slope. The local population (28 families) takes care for saplings and further "soft" exploitation of the planting site (nuts, medicinal plants, fruits etc.).
One of the new approaches, implemented in similar type of projects was creation of public fund by the population, the means of which should be directed on supporting of irrigation system of the plot and fencing. But it is not clear if the all works on watering and fencing were made at the expense of established fund or other sources.
Capacity ?building component
The population gets new skills in sapling nursing, to collect and process of non-forest products and raises the level of knowledge about interrelation between economic activity and rehabilitation of natural ecosystem. The level of knowledge about local flora and fauna rises as well.
Gender focus
The obviously expressed gender approach is not presented in this project, but the active participation of the women and children for saplings care is foreseen.
Co-financing received
Co-financing from Public Association «AKSY DAANYSMANY» in cash is 154$, in kind is 221$.
The main kinds of co-finance were labor on saplings planting, seeds sowing and labor on fencing plantations. Contribution of local authority (allocating plot) is explained by interesting in increasing rent payment for plot which will in the future not pasture but forestry territory.
Replication in other communities or regions
This project is appropriate for replicating in analogous geographic conditions countries but for it necessary to solve the plantings protection problem. There are no plans on up-scaling the project to a medium-sized GEF.
Links between this project and the overall GEF
Links between this project and the overall GEF follows from public awareness on global environment problems. At the seminars and round tables, it emphasized, that the actions under the project result not only in occurrence of additional sources of the income of the local population and stabilization of local ecosystem, but also in restoration of relict nut forest, that is the direct contribution to preservation of the global biodiversity. The project allows preventing cutting down on 30 hectares of land, and reducing manmade pressure on 200 hectares of land.
Influence on government policy
There is no obvious influence on government policy on National level but the land allocated by local authority for project implementation is illustration of project influence on the local level.
Benefits achieved for/ by participants during implementation

 In total 30 hectares of land were allocated to PA ?Aksy Daanysmany? (0.5 hectares is nursery from them)
 10 hectares were distributed among 8 families for taking care saplings (3620 of walnut, 3500 of plum, apple, apricots, and hawthorn)
 2 seminars were conducted (58 people participated in them)
 2 work places were organized ? watchman and ecologist
 Foundation established for supporting watering and enlarging planted area in depredated land
 2 information boards were installed, telecast was shown on local TV, articles in local and republic newspapers were published
Assessment of impact of project in the GEF focal area
Project corresponds to Operational Program 1 GEF/SGP ?Arid and Semi-Arid Zone Ecosystems? and provides biodiversity preservation through protection of allocated 10 hectares of land.
Policy influence
Karagygach Ayil Okmotu (local authorities) gave to rent 10 hectares of land to PA ?Aksy Daanysmany?.
