I. The project was visited on June 2 , 2005. The findings and observations were as follows:

The show & tell took place in three successive places: the community school of Baan (village) Wangkwaung, one plot of recovering degraded forest supplying water to the Phong River and a fish conservation within the village. Participation from the school was fairly outstanding. Lots of activities undertaken were displayed through computerized system. Representatives from participating villages took turns to relate about their efforts and immediate results of rehabilitation of the degraded watershed. After questions and answers, the NC and the four visiting project leaders were invited to elaborate about GEF/SGP and how this community action had benefited downstream areas and linked to a greater and transboundary impact.

One of the 11 protected forests was visited. A result of community effort was witnessed. There were comparatively more remaining native trees and young tree just planted. The plot was under recovery, though it still provided to community members in term of daily food.An additional conservation effort was witnessed through the establishment of fish conservation zone in the river flowing through the village. One spot in the river with special geographic condition such as unusual depth and certain kinds of standing tree species on the banks was set aside for fish habitats in this forest/mountain ecosystems.

Apart from participation from the school, participation from capacity of community was observed to be fairly outstanding, one of which was their exhibited will to protect and keep remaining forest area from encroachment for quick ?cash crop plantation, even though all of them had been depending on the crops for a few decades.

Note: Following the visit, the NC and six SGP project leaders in this fresh water ecosystems gathered together to discuss how to consolidate their effort for greater environmental and institutional impacts.


II.Completion reports were received on 31 October 2005 with following immediate outputs/results:

1.Emergence of forest protection volunteer unit of 120 members
2.Appriciable reduced illegal logging and deforestation
3.Availability of data & information , maps, photos and records of six forests of total 2,755 ha
4.Reduced severity of forest fire and damaged natural resources
5.Emergence of leaders practicing sustainable agriculture and agro-forestry ? 80 % of fruit trees growing fairly well
6. Noticable reduced land erosion
7. Emergence of one-year plan and five-year plan Through participation of various stakeholders
8. Adoption of plans by Namnao Tambol Administrative Organization
9. GEF/SGP better known in Petchabun Province


Participatory Evaluation: 30 June 2005
Participants: 50 persons comprising project leaders and members, teachers group, and
representatives from TAO
Methods: Meeting and seminar: Representatives of networks presenting results of activities
through VCD and pictures followed by sharing of experience and recommendation
Impact: Through witnessed coordination ,cooperation and assistance from both local and
national government agencies, the rehabilitation and conservation of the watershhed
was materialized . Besides, neighboring , non-member villages exhibited interest to
participate in network?s activities. Relevant data and information were given out for
use and future conservation activities.

Future Plan: 1. Together with the Wang Kwang Tambol Administrative Organization, the network
was formulating plan for collective management of environment and would submit for
financial support from the Provincial Action Plan of the NEF.
2. To forge partnership with five other year-5 GEF/SGP grantees in Phong-Chee
basin and prepare one proposal to cover wider area of the basin
3. To establish a saving group: Now there is Baht: 50,000 ? a result of one
Baht /day saving-effort.
