Sern Basin Development
After proclamation of the project area as a conservation area of the government, the target population who had been long depending upon the provision of the forest ecosystems were encountering difficulties in accessing and collectively managing the natural resources, resulting in the deforestation , loss of forest cover , land erosion , untimely flood and shrinking area of carbon sink.
The promotion of cash crops by the government during the past four decades has resulted in maximum tilling and use of chemical substances. The prevailing practices had gradually led to land degradation and water pollution in natural water courses.
In order to reverse the above degradation, together with members from the seven target villages, the project has initiated the participatory management of natural resources in the project area to conserve forest , land and water. The activities will contribute to reversing land and water degradation as well as adding area of carbon sink through additional re-vegetation.
Project participants and/or beneficiaries:
1.Community members of the seven target villages are primary beneficiaries and project participants.
2.Other agencies as direct contributors to the project:
-Khoke Mone Tambol Administrative Organization providing financial support and participating in
project activities
-Village Committee participating in the implementation and as a major stakeholder
-All schools under the supervision of the Office of National Primary Education participating in
project activities
-Ban Kok Kabok Temple participating in and supporting project activities
Activities to be carried out under project:
1. Launching reforestation of community forest
2. Launching survey and establishing regulations for use of community forest
3. Compiling lessons learnt
4.Launching sustainable agricultural practice in selected target communities
5. Launching campaigns and dissemination to wider audiences
Anticipated results/Immediate Outputs of project:
1. Increased of forest cover by 16 ha
2. Emergence of 10 documents of resources inventories, one document of CBO management strategy
3. Compiled database of farmers
4. Emergence of five model farmers as good examples for conservation of soil and water
5. Emergence of 35 farmers practicing sustainable agriculture
6. Emergence of one set of dissemination materials
