Raising and providing awareness to the public and stakeholders on persistant organic pollutants and their dangers to environmet and human health
POPs are understood to be one of the most dangerous threats to human health and the environment as well. Reliable evidence has been gathered associating human exposure to POPs to many kinds of cancer and tumors at multiple sites, learning disorders, immune system changes, increased incidence of diabetes, they are also concentrated in human tissues and breast milk.
The project aimed at providing the local community and stakeholders with information about dangers of POPs and involve them in a participatory approach with governmental agencies and policy makers to achieve the following goals:
?Reducing or elimination of production of POPs
?Reducing or elimination the use of POPs including switching to safer and more sustainable alternatives.
?Safe disposal of POPs
?Reduce POPs emission
?Share with the government and official responsible bodies addressing critical domestic health, environment and sustainable development issues related to POPs.
?Cooperate with the government in the implementation of Stockholm Convention.
The main Goal of the project is :

development and implementation especilly for women, youth, children and the least educated, of educational and public awarness programs on POPs, as well as on thier health and environmetal effects
development and exchange of educational and public awarness material at the national level perticulary training of community trainers
documentation of all information and materials for public awarness campaigns and training programs
training of multiple stakeholders, NGOs staff and community workers, privet sector and other civil socity organization

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment

Capacity - Building Component
The main goal of the project was raising the awareness of the public and stakeholders on persistent organic pollutants and their dangers to the environment and human health establishing a network among the trained NGOs/CBOs to receive information about POPs issues.
- Participatory workshops for all stakeholders to discuss situation of POPs in Egypt.
- Organize ten workshops for multiple stakeholders
- Conduct training of trainers workshops.
- A national workshop to present project results and decide future actions.
