Strengthening SGP Impact and Knowledge Management in Lithuania
Project Aims: SGP in Lithuania seeks to contribute to protection of global environmental resources, at the same time fostering sustainable development of local communities. The aim of the project was to strengthen the impact of SGP in Lithuania by: 1) Making the society more aware and knowledgeable on environmental issues - SGP focus areas and publicizing examples of successful integrated environmental and community development initiatives; 2) Widely informing local communities on SGP and possibilities to participate in the program; 3) Widening the network on information and experience exchange in SGP fields of focus, involving local communities, NGOs and media; 4) Assisting in identification of valuable community initiatives and helping NGOs and community organizations to prepare for participation in the program; 5) Strengthening and improving the capacities of local NGOs; 6) Fostering sustainable development of Lithuania?s communities; and 7) Enabling further betterment and improving publicity of GEF and SGP in Lithuania.
Project Management: The project carried out in close cooperation between the Project Team and SGP National Coordinator?s office. The Project Team (Project Manager, Project Coordinator, and Consultant) is formed so as to have solid expertise and skills in project management, community work and environment. However, additional experts in particular environmental issues will be hired as necessary to assist NGOs in preparation of their project proposals to SGP.
Project activities: The project will issue two packages of information material for NGOs, and the Best Practice Booklet. It will pay a lot of attention to reaching out to local communities and NGOs, empowering them to participate. Articles on SGP will be published in local papers, and partner umbrella organizations such as Lithuanian Borough Administrators Association, Regional Community Unions, NGO information Centers and others will help in disseminating the information to
