Gariya Integrated Ecosystem Management and Integration of San people.
Gariya Community seeks to implement an integrated programme that focuses on addressing the challenges of shortage of water for livestock and wild life in Tsholotsho District. This involves the rehabilitation of Gariya Dam which is currently dry due to siltation. The group will also engage in the rehabilitation and protection of Manzamnyama Catchment which has become seriously deforested and degraded.The project also seeks to address the [problem of food security and income generation through nutrition gardens.The project will be located around Gariya dam which benefits 5 wards namely ward 1, 7, 8, 10 ,and11 through livestock and wildlife watering and water for domestic uses.
Objectives of the programme include,
to improve the capacity of Gariya community to manage the project through the establishment of Gariya Development Association, to improve the availability of surface water through rehabilitation of Gariya dam in order to ensure availability of water for livestock, to equip communities with skills on how to manage Manzamnyama catchment together with engaging in activities that include re-afforestation, gully reclamation, enrichment planting, grazing management and planting of vertiva grass and to improve the community's income and livelihood levels through gardening, fish-farming and small grains production together with, documentation of lessons learnt from implementing the Gariya programme useful for information exchange and replication.

Gender Focus
80% of the community are women whol play a pivotal role in project planning, implementation and the decision making process. In the leadership committees there has been a deliberate effort to have an equal representation of both men and women.
Notable Community Participation
Community participation hinges on the fact that they initiated the program and have already come up with their work plan to implement activities outlined in the project document. The community has also set up the Gariya Development Association which has representatives from the participating wards to co-ordinate programme activities.
