Generation of electricity from Biogas through the fuel cell technology
Generation of electricity from Biogas through the fuel cell technology
The Lonely Park project seeks to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through the installation of fuel cells to generate electricity from biogas. Associated with this, the project will also process and package manure which will help in the reduction of methane gas emissions into the atmosphere as compared to using untreated cow dung.
objectives
The broad objective of the project is to reduce rural poverty by increasing agricultural productivity and production through investment in improved farm support services particularly renewable energy.
1. to provide farmers with a reliable electricity supply for productive purposes in a sustainable manner
2. to increase the productivity and income of farmers by supporting productive investments and improving farm practices
-to promote the usage of renewable energy for productive purposes in Zimbabwe`s agricultural sector by removing barriers and reducing implementation costs
4. to reduce greenhouse gases in the agriculture sector

expected results
-by the end of the project 80%of residents in the Chikwaka /Chinyika communal lands would be using organic fertilizer for their crops and gardens instead of the organic fertilizer which is not readily available and is expensive purchase. The farm community (300 households) will have electricity in their homes .The farm will have its own electricity for the chillers and irrigation pumps .

Project Characteristics and Results
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
Access to electricity will enable the farmers to engage in different income generating activities to raise income. Since this is a clean energy source, unlike the use of wood and kerosene, which emit a lot of smoke, the project will help to create a clean working environment for the women. The use of treated cow dung will go a long way in improving agricultural productivity and output hence increase food security.
Notable Community Participation
The farm workers at the moment are using kerosene which is always in shor tsupply and has become expensive. The wood which is another alternative is not readily available. Given this background, the farm workers are willing and committed to work with farm owner and will be involved in the installation of the infrastructure and its maintenance. They already have their small plots where they will use the treated manure for sustainable agriculture activities.
