Extension of Multan Environment Conservation Project (MECP)
The primary objective of the Multan Environment Conservation Project (MECP) is to demonstrate successful, or potentially successful, strategies for mobilizing communities and peoples to conserve their environment through the following activities:

i) Composting of the municipal solid waste and
ii) Establishment of community based solid waste management system and

The overall objective is to positively contribute to an improved environment by reducing global warming through recycling and composting of solid waste.

Notable Community Participation
it aims to develop partnership with the public, private and community parts of the society, in which public is represented by Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) Multan City, whereas the community is represented by CDRC. Private sector is involved by making contribution in the establishment of a small on site laboratory for quality testing. The Memorandum of Understanding signed during August 2003 between TMA and CDRC becomes the major basis of the partnership. According to the MOU, land for the solid waste plant will be provided by TMA, which will also be responsible to transport at least 100 tons of municipal solid waste to the plant site on daily basis whereas, CDRC is responsible to mobilize resources to pay for the cost of plant and allied machinery.
