Rehabilitation of land and riverbanks with heavy degradation due to gem mining by Mayaurapura Grama Sanwardana Samithiya
Awareness raising of communitites on high degradation afffects on forsts, land and riverbanks due to gem mining, rehabilitate degraded land to agriculturally viable land and eliminate factors that give rise to malaria and other vector diseases due to water stagnation in abandoned gem pits.
The propsed project area is the catchments of the major irrigation scheme, Kumbukan Oya in the Moneragala district. The mitigation of land degradation in the upper catchments will be highly effected to the irrigation project and its sustainability. The project will also emphasize the additional income generating activites such as introduction of proper agriculture practices and rural savings. The economical development and positive attitudes generatied in beneficiaries mind would be leading them to continue this for an extended period.

An awareness creation programme will develop necessary background for sustainable agricultural production. Also strengthening of existing farmer organizations and small group of societies to undertake environmental conservation programme.
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
The awareness creation programme of the school children and the gem miners are made awareness about "the global environment." The trends and its impacts tot he human being may aslo be emphasised.
