Fuel and energy supply of the rural areas is poor. The main causes are increase of prices for fuel and energy and decrease of leaving standard of the population. Thus, population uses local natural resources, such as wood, bush and dry manure for heating, which leads to the environment intensive destruction, especially to soil erosion. Deficiency of fuel and energy and poor constructive quality of inhabited rural houses (heat-shielding of the houses is low, i.e. 50-60 % of the family budget is spent for heating) lead to the situation when the temperature inside the premises is much below comfortable, that causes diseases of tenants, especially old people, children and women.

Within the project heat saving technologies applicable for the rural areas with the use of cheap and accessible local materials such as clay, straw, cane, wool will be applied. The project is also a demonstration one, it has a training component and can be duplicated in other villages and provinces without dependence on climatic conditions. The purpose of the project is to promote technologies on improvement of the house heat isolation in rural areas to decrease usage of power resources by means of carrying out training programme and demonstration of the heat isolation measures, carrying out energy audit and activities on energy saving and improvement of the heating system in the chosen villages, monitoring of the results to estimate the effect of the lead works, distributing information about the results.

The following results are going to be reached upon the project completion: the heat isolation system in 10 houses in Amangeldy and Amandokter villages of the Almaty province will be improved; 2 training seminars on heat isolating issues will be conducted in the villages. Presentation of the project results and awareness raising company to share the project results will be arranged. Local population of Amangeldy and Amandokter villages will actively participate in the project.
