Establishment of 20 agro-forestall plots to recover potatoes and native broad beans in the Caserío Tojcheche, Comitancillo, San Marcos
20 people work in this project sowing domestic potatoes and a combination of fruit trees as avocado, matazanos and soursop, and fodder crops as miche, elderberry and willow for domestic animal use (Casimiroa edulis, Persea americana Mill, Annona reticulata L., Sambucus mexican, Salix chilensis and miche). They will also build 20 rustic galleys for their animal stabling to avoid them eroding the soil. Participants will also gather manure and urine for fertilizers and organic foliar production.
They plan to produce 5 quintals of potatoes and 1.5 quintals of broad beans per partner. 116 miches, 166 willows, 1000 grafted avocados, 140 matazanos and 240 soursops will be produced in the nursery. Besides, 40% of the 8,000 trees will be used for reforestation purposes and protection of their water sources, the rest will be for sale and so obtaining income to solve their economic and water problems.
All participants will be trained in issues such as production, management and commercialization of the above types, with organic agriculture and soil preservation.
