Ringphu Sustainable Development Project to be implemented by the Ringphu Chethuen Tshogpa (RCT) in Mongar Dzongkhag to carry out activities that would improve the standard of living of Ringphu community through conservation of local environment and promote sustainable development in Ringphu village.
The Ringphu village is one of the remotest areas in Jurmey geog (block of a district) under Mongar Dzongkhag. It has limited infrastructure facilities. It is three days walk to the nearest motor road. It has a community primary school namely Jurmey Community Primary School (CPS). Jurmey CPS provides primary education to 200 numbers of students and they have to travel three hours each day to the school and back home on the same duration. WFP day-meals are provided to the students and the Jurmey CPS uses traditional open stoves which consumes large quantity of firewood and this is compounded by the use of open stoves by the local people also.

Therefore, the Ringphu Chethuen Tshogpa (RCT) requested GEF/Small Grants Programme with an aim to carry out activities that would improve the living standard of the community there.
The project aims to achieve the following objectives:
1. Conserve the forest of Ringphu from deforestation;
2. install solar lightings in Lhakhang;
3. create awareness on the importance of natural resources conservation and
4. carry out plantations to increase the forest cover.

The project's rationale is that the forest in and around Ringphu is degrading due to heavy consumption of fuelwood and through use of natural resources through other local measures such as humane and cattle, the use of forest pine trees to use as candles at night. Like any other remote areas, this village also suffers from lack of electricity and critical water supply facility for various purposes.

Through this project, the end result would be the use of improved stoves that would significantly reduce the consumption of firewood from the local forest, reduce the use of pine extractions for lighting purposes, thus saving the life of the pine trees and also have water supply facility for the improvement of a better living.
