Rehabilitation of Gathiuru Forest
This project is the continuation of the "Planting indigenous trees for Mt. Kenya forests using primary and secondary schools around Mt. Kenya"project (KEN/UNF-GEF/02/03 ).
The project will involve both primary and secondary school children in tree planing activities and conservation programmes aimed at awareness raising with a view of conserving the Mt. Kenya forests.
FENCOM will:
(1) Mobilize communities and identify casual labourers
(2) Supervise labourers to spot clear and do pitting for 60 ha
(3) Organise to transport seedlings from the tree nurseries to the forest station and from the forest station to the planting site.
(4) Supervise planting of 100,000 seedlings in 60 ha.
(5) Prepare a final project report.
