Maintenance of Seedlings Planted in Magache Forest
This project is the continuation of the "Planting indigenous trees in Mt. Kenya Forest using women's groups "Project (KEN/UNF-GEF/02/02 ).
The aim of the project is to ensure the growth of previous planted seedlings in Magacha Forest.
The NGO will:
(1) Spot weed indigenous seedlings planted as part of the original tree planting project five times.
(2) Oversee and disburse the funds for spot weeding for the original seedlings planted by FENCOM for schools
(3) Paste or spray a chilli pepper mix on the seedlings planted in Magacha Forest to help protect them from elephants
(4) Help COMPACT produce map showing the existing and potential elephant fences around Mt. Kenya.
(5)Help COMPACT to advertise the work of COMPACT and Mt. Kenya Trust in the local press.
(6) Prepare project reports as when requested by COMPACT.

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
As an additional incentive for women to be part of the project, members of the identified groups will be eligible to join a micro-finance credit scheme in order to enhance either their ability to improve ongoing projects within their groups, or begin new ones
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
The need for forest conservation for global benefit is emphasized. Mount Kenya is a World Heritage Site and a National Reserve.
