A Pilot Project to Establish a Community Led Conservation Programme in Selected Areas of the Kuman Hills
The project aims to establish a Bio-diversity Conservation and Resource center to develop and run a community led conservation programme for Conserving agro bio-diversity of rice, (especially upland rice), legumes millets and other underutilized crops by training and building capacity of the community and conducting a right awareness programme on community rights in law and to create a partnership with scientific institutions to provide training and skills to identify plants with insecticidal and pesticidal properties in conservation and use of biodiversity for sustainable for sustainable livelihood.

Notable Community Participation
Conservation of agro bio-diversity of rice (especially upland rice), legumes millets and other underutilized crops will be done through collection of samples of under-utilization crops, characterization and documentation of properties of material through community participation. Farmer-level gene banks for medium term storage will be established in the villages along with training of Village Level Resource Persons.
Gender Focus
The community wants to focus on women for which they Provided training to women and youth in scientific methods in collecting, characterizing and preparing agro biodiversity for storage in gene banks in collaboration with NBPGR
