Monitoring and Extensive Wildlife Management of White-lipped Peccary in the Wederã Xavante Village
Monitoramento e Manejo Extensivo de Queixadas na Aldeia Wederã Xavante
Monitoramento e Manejo Extensivo de Queixadas na Aldeia Wederã Xavante
The project seeks to build capacity for the inhabitants of the Wederã Xavante Village in the Mortes River Indigenous Reservation for extensive white-lipped peccary (Tayassu pecari) management. Sustainability for game is sought, in an attempt to restore the indigenous tradition of hunting. Telemetry will be used for control of the specimens. A decrease in the pressure on the natural resources of the reservation is one of the main goals of the project. The use of fire for obtaining food is slowly becoming a common practice in the village, and the reversal of this tendency is important.
