Green Life to the Cedro Quilombola Community
A Vida Verde ao Cedro
Technical support for starting a pilot evaluation, awareness-building, design and implementation program for activities linked to the recovery and management of areas explored for the production of traditional medicine and sweets are the main objectives of this project. Sustainability of this strategy is largely dependant on community integration through the participative planning and evaluation activities, as well as environmental education, capacity building in new planting techniques and land use, and construction of a business plan for commercialization of the products. This pilot initiative is believed to serve as stimulus for the community to increase the number of areas for recovery and management. This proposal will affect 22 families directly, in hopes of expanding in the long run to many more, preserving the cultural heritage of the Cedro Community, which is made up of descendants of former slaves.
