COMMUNITY-BASED MANGROVE MANAGEMENT IN SAN SALVADOR ISLAND
The project will ensure sustainability, conservation and management of mangrove resources of San Salvador Island, Masinloc, Zambales through participatory community-based coastal resource management 9CBCRM) and conservation.
Mangroves decline continuously in San Salvador Island due to illegal harvesting of resources and destructive fishing practices. As a result, fishery resources that are dependent from this ecosystem are heavily distressed, thereby affecting the everyday existence of local community.
The project aims to ensure conservation and management of mangrove resources in San Salvador Island through participatory community-based coastal resource management and conservation.
The project shall also enhance/strengthen the partner people?s organization and community for the eventual management of the project.

Capacity - Building Component
At least 15-20 community members will be trained in various capacity building/training seminars such as: Leadership Training; Basic Environmental Education and Youth Ecology Camp; Paralegal; Mangrove Resource Management; Participatory Action Research; Gender and Development; Basic Bookkeeping and Basic Accounting.
Notable Community Participation
The organization having 73 registered members, majority of which are male members. The men engaged in physical activities like actual fishing while women in the community take an active role in resource management and livelihood activities such as mangrove resource conservation. Women participated in the organizational activities such as trainings, workshops, seminars, and participatory action research. In fact, women often act as spokeperson when issues concerning livelihoods that would directly affect their households are raised.
