European Roller protection in Podkarpacie
European Roller protection in Podkarpacie
European Roller is one of the most endangered bird species in Europe (in Red Data Book is classified as ?CR ? Critically Endangered? or ? in some European countries ? as ?EX ? extinct?). Also in Poland, number of European Roller pairs is extremely low ? 112 -133 ? and is still decreasing. Around 30% of all population in Poland lives in Podkarpacie (35 pairs), where protection activities are poor.
Main goals of the project:
1. Stop decreasing of European Roller pairs number (elimination or limitation of dangers in Sandomierska Primeval Forest);
2. Monitoring of European Roller in Podkarpacie;
3. Increase the number of breeding pairs thanks to installment of nesting boxes;
4. Increase public awareness about dangers and possibilities of European Roller protection;
5. Limitation of tree cutting;
6. Designation of local community members to protect breeding places of European Roller;
7. National wide meetings of scientists ? exchange of experiences and working out protection plan of European Roller in Poland;
