Frog's paradise in Baranowo region
Dry summers and winters in past two decades and extensive agricultural drainage caused a dramatic fall of ground water, introduction of secondary vegetation in dried parts, floral and fauna poverty.
Project aims in an increase of water retention in order to stop further degradation of important biotopes near Baranowo.
Main activities: rising water level in Prawdowskie swamp (now drying) securing better living conditions for reptiles, pond turtle and birds; clearance of bush and trees (secondary vegetation);adaptation of a small building in Zelwag village for local museum and information point for farmers about eco-agro EU programmes, preserving sustainable use of land and protecting valuable habitats (subsidiez for specific practices);marking educational path with billboards and construction of watch tower (local site of beavers);organisation of exibition abotlandscape and role of wetlands in Mazury Lake District in general, vincinity of Baranowo in particular (together with research Station of PAN (Polish Academy of Sciences in Kosewo, the Earth Museum in Warsaw);publishing a brochure (32pages);contest for local schools.
Project should bring socio-cultural-economic and ecological efefcts.
