Dormices active protection in forests of Mazowieckie and Swietokrzyskie Voivodships
Dormices (Gliridae) are not so well known from the scientific and people's point of view.3 of them are on the Red List of endangered species in Poland (fat doormouse - Glis glis,,forest doormouse - Dryomys nitedula,,garden domouse - Eliomys qrecinus), protected by Bern Convention, garden domouse also is on the Red List of IUCN and Habitat Directive of EU..Hiden night life-style is one of reasons of the lack of proper knowledge about these species. The lack of hollow trees - the lack of proper hatch place is one ot the main threat to these mammals. Project is aimed in active protection of door-mouse and garden domouse by increasing numbers of potential hiding and breeding places.
Main activities will include : planting fruit trees in selected areas of 7 forest inspectorates in Radom Regonal Inspectorate; monitoring of all hatching boxes; trainings for foresters;publication of an educational poster and brochures providing the basic knowledge about species and about project; organisation of workshops for members and volunteers and placinement of 685 hatching boxes in the forest together with foresters; preparation of webpage (ww.bocian.org.pl/programy/popielica/).
Foresters in the field and chiefs in local/regional forest inspectorates are the main partner in implementation. At the end of project implementation some organisational problems has occured and Project manager was changed. It brought some tension within implementing team.Project manager left TP Bocian.
