Desenvolvimento Sustentável na Exploração do Baru (Dipteryx alata) no Município de Pirenópolis, Goiás
This project has the installation of a processing plant for a threatened Cerrado species - baru (Dipteryx alata). A model for sustainable use of natural resources will be used as a base for the activities which will bring economic feasibility to the members of the commercialization chain (extractivists, manipulators and middlemen). An association will be formed initially for social organization of the group in question and participative project management. The associates will be trained in administrative management. The equipment needed for the processing plant will be acquired with project funds and installed in a space built for this purpose, donated by the Pirenopólis City Hall. Meetings will be held in surrounding regions for the formation of other associations to comprise a cooperative. The baru suppliers in the region will be registered. A primer will be published, containing collection criteria and techniques, which will be defined according to consulting in ecology and food technology. Agroforestry consortia will be implemented for useful native species for dissemination of planting techniques and recovery of degraded areas, increasing the offer of natural resources, reducing the pressure on the natural Cerrado resources. The Federal University of Goiás will cooperate with research on nutritional information of the nut in its many uses as pulp, flour, oil and feed.
