In the first stage of the project, the following activities took place: participation in the Cerrado Workgroup meetings; participation in Thematic Commissions of the Workgroup; realization of the Montes Claros Regional Meeting, in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, with the presence of the Minister; realization of the IV Cerrado Midwife and Medicine Woman's Meeting in Cidade de Goiás, state of Goiás to address issues of medicinal plants and traditional knowledge; participation in the Brazil UNDP Environment Week; preparations for the Cerrado Cryout, a large event for mass mobilization of national public opinion. The Cerrado Network has thus strengthened its dialog with the Ministry of Environment, with active participation in the development of the Sustainable Cerrado Program. The presence of representatives in the Cerrado Workgroup has undoubtedly insured a participative process for the Program. There are, however, delays and obstacles, which prevented the original expectation of submitting the finished program to the Minister on September 11, which was not possible. This was the first opportunity for civil society to particpate actively in the design of environmental policy for the Cerrado. This is of paramount importance for the reversal of the rapid degradation affecting the Cerrado biome. All events thus far had received thorough media coverage.

The activities for the second stage were: log race between Xavante and Timbira Indians in front of the Ministry buildings, in Brasília, as a public manifestation of alert to the process of extinction of the Cerrdo and its populations; sustainable product and experience show; roundtable in the house of representatives for the inclusion of the Cerrado as a National Heritage; pro-Cerrado demonstation in front of the Ministry buildings; participation in the submission of Cerrado Workgroup results to the Minister of Environment.The Cerrado outcry gave the biome more visibility in the eyes of the public than ever before achieved, and led the Minister of Environment to extend the duration of the Workgroup for one more year, which strengthened the both Cerrado Workgroup and the Cerrado Network. The success of the Cerrado Outcry was such that the main difficulty faced was the procurement of funds to cover the totality of the expenses, but the Cerrado Network managed to negotiate with different sources as well as use later SGP grants to cover the debts incurred.
