Community based nature conservation of Zorgol Mountain and its buffer zone
Zorgol Hairhan is a famous mountain in Mongolia by its beautifulness. A community inhabiting around the mountain has approached an NGO to assist them in organizing themselves to become a group and conduct nature protection and ecotourism activities to benefit from the mountain. The grant is given to support an NGO's initiative to carry out the same basic activities including development of community participatory management plan for a locally protected area, which have been done by US $ 5.1 million GEF Full Scale project in the Eastern Mongolia. The NGO has conducted several training courses among the local community with involvement of the local government and assisted in both forming a group to act collectively and registering with the local government. Also a training was conducted on hosting individual tourists with their extra ger accommodations. Now some families start hosting individual tourist and serve them with horse riding. The NGO also assisted the local government to declare Zorgol Hairhan as locally protected area.

Project Characteristics and Results
Capacity - Building Component
1. By this project, local community participatory tour camp will be established for enhancing their livelihood. 2. Local community will be trained during the project implementation on how to maintain community protected area. 3. Local governor's resolution on community protected area will be generated.
Notable Community Participation
Community based natural resource management will be implemented through PRA way meaning participatory review assessment from the bottom level up to top by involing community in the project design, implementation and evaluation processes.
