Northern -Kazakhstan area is one of the most ?lacustrine? regions of Kazakhstan, as 3,5 thousand small internal drainage lakes are located here, being an integral part of the local landscapes. However natural landscapes became a rarity in the region. Anthropogenous negative impact is high. And the natural phytocenosis require implementation of rehabilitating and protecting measures, as a lot of rare, disappearing and RedBada Book species are an integral part of floristic structure of the region.

Another problem is lack of financial sources to implement the lakes melioration activities, which leads to losing useful characteristics of the lakes and lakes degradation. Low population ecological culture level intencifies the problem.

The purpose of the project is restoration of the lake ecosystems of the Nothern Kazakhstan on an example of a reservoir with losing trade qualities and intensive degradation processes. Achievement of project goal is supposed to be reached by

implementation of a complex of the following measures: 1) restoration of Ulkenzharma lake ecosystem, 2) development of practical recommendations for further duplication of the project results, and 3) public awarereness raising and involvement into the nature protection measures.

Expected results:
1. A complex of meliorative activities on improvement of the lake conditions is implemented
2. A work on enrichment of flora and fauna of the lake is done.
3. Local population actively participate in the project activities, such as meliorative activities, lakes protection, monitoring, etc.
4. The results of the work done with practical recommendations are generalized in a form of booklet and widespread among a wide audience through mass-media and other sources
5. Local people awareness about the problem is raised.
