Community based conservation and tourism development in the Noot Lake
Community based conservation and tourism development in the Noot Lake
This is a replication of MON/03/14 project. The number of individual tourists and eco-tourists coming to Mongolia every year has been increasing more rapidly than that of collective tourist groups. In this situation, some herder families set up extra gers during tourist season in summer in addition to their own and receive individual tourists at lower prices and costs. They often ask the Government for support, the government can not support at the current stage of transition. The grant is given to a local community group to fulfill their request that addresses conservation of two lakes and habitats of thousands of migratory birds by developing a bird watching ecotourism with assistance of a bird researcher near the lakes. A small community camp was set up with a substantial contribution from the community. From the next spring of 2006 they will start receiving eco-tourists, bird watchers.
