Management of the Medvegalis Archeological Complex by Preserving Diversity and Valuable Ecosystems, and Promotion of Ecological Tourism by the Local Community
The project activities will be implemented in the area of the archeological complex of Medvegalis. The project aims to protect cultural heritage and sustain rare ecosystems, as well as to start nature management activities and promote ecological tourism in the area.
SGP will finance inventory of the natural values of the locality, which is rich in rare plants and insects. After obtaining this data it will be possible to prepare a scientifically based nature management plan. The ancient mounds will be cleared from trees and bushes. This will bring double benefit: historical heritage will be preserved and favorable conditions for the endangered natural meadows of the steppe type will be created.
It is planned that many informative and educative seminars will be organized for the local communities. These seminars will cover environmental topics as well as ecological farming and environment friendly tourism.
Information system of the archeological complex will be created as well. It is also planned to involve local people into nature management activities and at the same to create sources of the additional income for them: two families will receive grass and bush cutting devises and will receive certificated training, two families will start cultivating traditional bee-keeping, and one family will be able to start bicycle-rent business. The families obliged themselves to mow the grasslands and to clear the slopes of the mounds for 4 years.
