Project Characteristics and Results
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
Our goal is not only to develop expertise in concerned individuals, but also to make it a sustainable activity that would enable the participants to earn their livelihood while serving the cause of environmental conservation.
1. By selling of attractive photos presented in exhibitions, a fund may be started and then even after the completion of all 4 batches, making use of material and equipment, another course can be conducted in future.
2. By having maximum of 160 self-employed people, their family members will also be economically stable.
3. After the project duration the equipments will be used for training activities, which will conduct in next five years or beyond,
4. As the course members are highly educated on environment, their vision may be sound and any destruction or threat to environment may definitely be caught by camera leading to conservation.
5. Expansion of training centre & facilities will be used for training activities in future
Capacity - Building Component
Photographic records can also play a vital role in conservation-oriented education of school children. In spite of the importance of the activity only a few organizations provide training to amateurs and almost no organizations are available that provide comprehensive training on wildlife photography. This area remains the domain of few professionals and amateurs who practice it as a hobby. Due to the high cost of equipment and the lack of training wildlife & Environmental photography as a livelihood is chosen by only a few persevering individuals.
The main objective of the proposed program is to cater to this long-felt need to foster the talent of creative individuals and to develop a ?critical mass? of concerned persons involved in conservation-oriented wildlife photography.
Other objectives are to create an awareness of the need for conservation of environment through environmental photography and to train 160 amateur photographers with a view to facilitate conservation of the environment and wildlife in Sri Lanka.
