Rush & Reed Conservation and diversification programme - Equator Initiative special grant project by Podujana Himikam Kamituwa
District national and international level sharing of information, establishing raw material supply sources for sustainablility and strengthening a rush and reed netwotk of producers and suppliers, developing the training center for training needs of the network. This grant was awarded as Podujana Himikam Kamituwa was selected as a finalist in the Equator Initiative 2005. The main objective of the project is to dessiminate information about the rush and reed industry nationally and where ever possible establish rush and reed supplying and production centres. Cottage Industry with the use of rush and reed is popular and there is an increase demand for this kind of product. Quality improvemnt of rush and reed products such as mats and bags and diversifing into othere rush and reed products is also an aim of the NGO
