Awareness Raising for the Conservation of Green Turtles (Chelonia mydas) Nesting in Samandag Coast
Chelonia mydas (green turtle) is one of the endangered species in IUCN (1998) criteria. Green Turtles are also listed under ?animal species certainly need protected? with Bern Convention that was signed by our Country. Samandağ is one of the most important C. mydas nesting areas out of three notable beaches in Turkey. The harmful affects of mostly human activities on turtles are discussed in many national and international platforms by many researches. Especially the conservation studies in Samandağ Beaches have been encouraged for the last tree- year by the government and the useful results have been got in conservation of sea turtles in Samandağ. The local residents will take some precaution by auto control after giving enough education to the residents about the need of conservation of some endangered species. The aims of this project are either determine of the nest potential in Samandağ Beach or arrange the educational programs to the local fishermen and to primary and secondary school students as a target people. Besides this project add the local residents to the conservation studies actively and therefore this project trigger the sustainable conservation studies.

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
The project aims to promote publci awareness of the importance of the conservation of green sea turtles, as an endangered species. The project will create some printed materials, organise meetings and trainings with the local people and local students, as well as raising awareness of the tourists that use the beach.
Notable Community Participation
The project builds on the support from the locals. Until now, the conservation activities were carried out by government officials and universities. With this project the locals will be actively involved in the conservation efforts as they will be the ones that are doing and participating in the monitoring and awareness raising activities.
