The Lake Evae conservation project is located in the Sirunki area. The main objective was to investigate the cause of the decrease in the water level of the lake which measures 2.5km, identify ways to address this as this lake is believed by the locals to be the mother of two of the longest rivers in the country.

A team of two hydrologists hired by the project surveyed the lake and recommended for a further 4-5 days to carry out the study to attain more sustantive information as a one day survey was uncertain whether results were concrete enough to draw conclusions to the cause for the decrease in the water level. However, instruments used were sufficient for the results and the conclusion and recommendations made. The study indicated that the water oulet was 45% less than the water inlet. The study indicated that foreign materials were contained in the lake and this lead to the potential conclusion that sediemntation was a potential cause. Old stories confirmed this conclusion with accounts of past activities in that area.

Due to the limited time factor involved, the study could not ascertain that sedimentation was the cause of the water level decrease but as certain data collected indicate that it is possible, the study recommends further project funding to establish nuseries to address soil erosion. Also the study recommends the biological survey of the flora and fauna within and around the lake. It has achieved its objective and the project was completed successfully.
