Power from wind - Promoting Sustainable provision of Renewable Energy
The planning grant was used to assist ZERO develop their proposal. The overall goal of the project is to mitigate climate change through the support of Temaruru community Power Trust in building wind power plant to supply electricity to the school, clinic and pump water to the irrigation scheme. The specific objectives include the following:
1) To provide cheaper alternative sources of energy for Temaruru Business centre, the clinic and school located in Dumbamwe ward.
2) To raise local level awareness on climate change, energy conservation and efficiency issues
3) To strengthen community organizational structures and self suffiency through income generating projects
4) To provide a viable water supply to the school, clinic and irrigation scheme.
5) To set up wind turbines at Temaruru School, connect to the clinic and upgrade turbines at the business center
6) To set up 100 energy efficient stove kits and 1 biogas digestor for demonstartion
7) To provide live fencing for gardens using jatropha which can further be used for making soap and this will be a source of income generation
