Expansion and protection of Middle Asian gazelle (Gazella subgutturosa Guld.) habitat by rehabilitation of wood and bush vegetation and voluntary patrol of Akchechek and Karasay plots in the northern slope of Turkestan Range.
Middle Asian gazelle inhabits within the bound of Margunskaja ayil okmot. According to experts, it is the last population of Middle Asian gazelle (5-6 gazelles), surviving in the northern slope of Turkistan range. The main reason of their disappearance is degradation of forage fields, refuges and poaching. The problem is complicated by locating of mentioned plot on the boundary zone and openness from Tajikistan side.
The main goal of the project is conservation and increasing of Middle Asian gazelle?s population through the rehabilitation of their habitat (planting of saxaul, pistachio, almond saplings and restricting of cattle pasturing) and organizing community based patrol. Voluntary patrolling will be stimulated by rendering uniform, horse and binoculars.
During the project implementation the following results are expected:
Environment Impact
- conservation and increasing habitats of wood and grass vegetations included into Red Data Book of Kyrgyzstan
- rehabilitation and

Project Characteristics and Results
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
Cropping of pistachio and almond will provide sustainability. Cropping of brushwood in the plantings and branching allow decreasing expenses on coal purchasing. Participating in the patrol will be stimulated by breed from two patrol horses.
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
During training actions and information campaign it will be emphasized that enlarging of forage fields of Middle Asian gazelle is the direct contribution to preservation of global biodiversity.
