Decrease of rare and disappeared species of birds of prey depopulation rate in the Pamir-Alay mountain system by increase of public awareness through creation of information and knowledge sharing network among local fowlers and bird trainers (munushkers) of Osh oblast.
One of the new reasons of birds of prey disappearance is poaching of the local population that is catching and selling of birds illegally. New groups of people, who do not have traditional skills in catching and training such birds, are occupied with poaching. Traditional munushkers (bird trainers) are real power against new poachers.
The main goal of the project is to make interested traditional munushkers (their knowledge, skills, authority) in actions aimed at birds of prey population rate decrease in mountainous areas of Osh oblast.
During the project implementation the following results are expected to be achieved:
Environment Impact
It is possible that the projects results will affect birds of prey population stabilization, even its rising.
Economy Impact
It is difficult to say about economic effects of this project because the project?s main goal is prevent illegal selling of birds of prey that bring income to some persons. But in the long run economic effects might be accomplished in increase of number of tourists who will be interested in taking pictures or observing frame-up hunting with birds of prey.
Social and Cultural Impact
It is expected that the project results will allow rehabilitating of environmentally oriented national traditions
Actions to be undertaken by Public Foundation «Eco-Demilge»
1. Conduction of seminars and round table.
2. Organization of Public Association of hunting bird?s fancier of Osh oblast.
3. Organization community patrols.
4. Establishment of precaution boards and signs.
5. Inventory of birds of prey.
6. Publication brochures and posters about birds of prey.
7. Information campaign
The main target group of the project is proactive munushkers. The second important group is inhabitants who are frequent visitors of the bird?s habitats by their line or poachers (shepherds, hunters, veterinaries, foresters, inspectors of nature protection agencies, frontier guards, representatives of authorities and law enforcement bodies).
The main project activity will take place in mountain villages of Osh oblast (Gulcha, Sarytash, Darootkorgon, Karakuldja, Tokbaytalaa).
The expected benefits of the project, including environmental and livelihood benefits
- determine of birds of prey population
- decreasing of poaching incidents
- protection of nests
Economic benefit is introduction of munushkers with opportunities of receiving of additional incomes not connected with birds selling.

Project Characteristics and Results
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
During training actions and information campaign it will be emphasized that preservation of nearby habitat of wild birds of prey is the direct contribution to conservation of global biodiversity. Information campaign includes articles in local press, programs on local television, information boards.
Capacity - Building Component
Establishing of Association is a capacity-Building element of the project. This Association will help munushkers to exchange experience and disseminate information about their work. One of the project results is population?s and munushkers? awareness raising about demand for services connected with birds of prey that do not require withdrawing of birds from nature.
