Participatory Bamboo Plantation for Environment Conservation and Economic Enhancement Project
Participatory Bamboo Plantation for Environment Conservation and Economic Enhancement Project
Although Mahabharat range is considered as stable mountain range, improper land use, cultivation in marginal land and deforestation has triggered gully erosion and landslide. Barren hills exposed due to the deforestation has many negative environmental imperatives. Deforestation results increased surface water run off causing flash flood downstream. Likewise these silt laden run off water also deposits its debris once the velocity of water resided, resulting raised river and stream bed. Thus to address this critical land degradation issue, community based small bioengineering works are essential to stabilize the gullies and slopes. The planning grant was awarded to enhance local people?s participation and engage them from the very beginning of the project cycle. The project site is in Dahakhani VDC of Chitwan.

The full proposal has been submitted and full grants have been awarded to initiate the project.
