Involvement of local communities in forest owl monitoring and protection
Knowledge of forest's owls biology,behaviour is not so deep because of night, hidden lifestyle;Tengmalm's owl (Aegolius funercus),eagle owl (Bubo bubo) and pygmy owl(Glaucidium passerinum);noticed decline of population due to more productive approach in forest management eliminating old trees with natural hollows; project address these threats by connducting inventory of hatch places in 5 national parks and associated landscape parks.It is a joint action of foresters, ornitologists and services of national and landscape parks with contribution of volunteers from schools and students;
Preparation of manual describing owls, their biology, and proposed methods of active protection of their habitats (hatches); educational campaign with lectures for schools, production of poster and stickers;preparation of inventory questionaire, 4 workshops for all stakeholders involved and prepared by leading ornitologists;preparation web page;,hanging nesting boxes in the most vulnerable forest areas.Project concentrated to southern and easternpart of Poland(location of national parks) but thanks to workshops and particiation of peoples from other regions in fact will influence whole entire Poland, also through wide distribution of produced manual.
extra element of the project - inventory of tawny owl(Strix aluco) in Cracow, hanging of nesting box.
It is necessary to print more manual because of very high interest demonstrated mainly by forest inspectorates from whole Poland
