Shariin Gol - Community Rehabilitation of Friut Plantation
Shariin Gol - Community Rehabilitation of Friut Plantation
Orhon village used to be one of the fruit growing areas in Mongolia before 1990s. There was even a state owned fruit processing factory. As the country started shifting to a market economy early 90s, many fruit plantations in Orhon were left abandoned without any care due to lack of financial resources. As fruit plantations were completely destroyed in Orhon, people often start going to nature for wild fruits and berries, where many people use destructive techniques, causing serious damages to fruit trees and bushes and sometimes they make wild fires which destroy whole mountain ranges. The grant is to support community activities on cultivation of Buckthorns and Black Currant fruits to contribute to local government efforts on rehabilitating and re-cultivating former fruit farms in Orhon village, based on local communities. It has the same purpose with MON/04/22.
