Earth Day - 2005
Land erosion in the last decade represents one of the most serious threats to ecosystems, biodiversity, and development in Albania. Uncontrolled harvesting and grazing, conversion of agricultural land for inappropriate agricultural use or other forms of development, uncontrolled usage and poor forest management, are some examples of unsustainable land management practices very common in the country, which are leading to severe land degradation. In these conditions, it is necessary to understand the impact of our actions over the land and to look for land usage and management alternatives.
The objective of Earth Day is to force the environmental issues onto the national and international political agendas. It is also a day to raise public awareness on environmental issues in general and on their impact on environmental quality.
The minigrant is given to support activities on the occasion of Earth Day on 22 April 2005, which aim at raising public awareness on the protection of the global environment in general and land management in particular.
