Community Management of Sarstoon Temash Coastal Marine Resources
The objectives of this project are to develop a bi-national community based mechanism to address over-fishing in the waters adjacent to the Sarstoon Temash National Park in the Gulf of Honduras, to raise awareness among community members about the impact of unsustainable fishing practices, best fishing practices for the area, and the fisheries policy and regulatory framework in Belize and Guatemala; and to strengthen the organizational capacity of the two principal NGO?s working in the area, SATIIM and Fundación para el Ecodesarrollo y la Conservación (FUNDAECO).

Capacity - Building Component
Strengthening of the management and monitoring capacity of SATIIM and FUNDAECO will occur through joint ranger training and development of park monitoring infrastructure.
Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples
The primary fisheries resource users of the waters off the STNP are the indigenous Garifuna of Barranco Village and Maya Q?eqchi? fishermen of Sarstun Village. They will be involved in the project through their participation in sustainable fishing workshops and the STNP advisory committee.
