Project Characteristics and Results
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
The Marine Aquarium is considered the main and only source of information about coral reefs in Jordan for a large sector of the visitors. Developing the aquarium will enable it to reach a competitve level in terms of type of ecosystems presented to the public, the sustainability of the aquarium for teaching both students, at school and university levels, and for general tourists about marine life in the sea, suitability of the aquarium for spreading public awareness to visitors.
Policy Influence
The project was created to protect the biological diversity and marine environment in a sustainable manner in the Gulf of Aqaba, Jordan. Objectives: ? To develop the existing aquarium and to add another establishment to the aquarium acting as marine museum. ? To develop educational tools and displays in order to educate different sectors of the people community, among them school students, local and international tourists. ? To qualify and train technicians for dealing with reference collections and produce material for people education and awareness. ? To draw attention on the natural heritage of the marine environment and protect the fossilized reef organisms along the Jordanian coast.
