Low farm productivity is attributed to ageing coconut palms, low yielding, varieties, and lack of other oppurtunities to add value to their coconut and other by-products.lack of other crop cultivars and diversification activites limit oppurtunities of households to earn additional income.

The community will utilize technologies and will benefit from the experiences of the project through a documentation of the best practices that covers the project management and sustainable management and use of natural resources.

The decreasing aquatic resources in the coastal area is found to be caused by water pollution brought about by the soil erosion and organic pollutants leaking from upstream farms to the sea due to inappropriate farming system, inappropriate farm and household waste management and indiscriminate use of pesticieds and other agricultural chemicals for raising crops.Such practices conrtibute to the destruction of natural resources threaten life forms which are sources of income and nutrients of the families in the community. Organic inorganic pollutants like pesticides and fertilizers residues will eventually contaminate wider and deeper part of the sea and cause widespread marine system imbalance.

farmers, wives and unemployed adults are enjoined to learn farm and non-farm skills that can provide oppurtunites to earn income.
