Rehabilitation of Mountain Tugel Critical Land through Development of Organic Agro-forestry System
Project development Goal:
Rehabilitation of Mountain Tugel critical land through development of organic agro-forestry system

Project Objectives :
1.To develop organic agro-forestry system on critical land in purposed sites
2.To improve community?s technical skills on sustainable agriculture
3.To increase integrated agriculture activities (such as crops and livestock) to improve community?s welfare
4.To encourage peasant institutions to conserve their area in order to develop sustainable agriculture.

Expected output :
1.Critical land management in Mount Tugel area using organic agro-forestry system
2.Improved knowledge, skills and awareness to implement sustainable agriculture
3.Increased agricultural business and developed goat farm using good technical methods
4.Establishment of 4 (four) peasant groups and 200 (two hundred) farmers with good environmental understanding and perspective to share to other farmers.

Activities to be conducted :
A. Preparation:
1.Program area survey
2.Identification of local potential resources and local wisdom
3.Participatory planning

B. Strengthening local institutions:
1.Assessing constituencies which will be involved with the program
2.Program socialization
3.Organizing groups and providing technical assistances

C. Capacity building for community and local institutions:
1.Training on group management
2.Training on agro-forestry system
3.Training on organic pesticide and fertilizer (Making organic fertilizer and pesticide)
4.Training on tree nursery
5.Training on goat farming

C. Critical land rehabilitation and water conservation:
1.Providing sample of organic agro-forestry activities
2.Developing land spatial plan
3.Preparing to manage the land and carry out basic fertilizing
4.Purchasing small trees
5.Planting trees
6. Maintaining (irrigation, land clear up, following fertilizing, controlling pest)

D. Developing integrated agriculture techniques for crops and livestock:
1.Increasing the intensiveness of farm land
2.Optimalizing backyard garden
3.Developing livestock :
a.Purchasing proper goat stall
b.Purchasing high-quality goat
c.Purchasing cow
d.Developing livestock food supply HMT (Hijauan Makanan Ternak)

E. Monitoring, evaluation and reporting:
1.Monitoring
2.Evaluation and the next phase planning
3.Report writing

Project Participants and/or beneficiaries :
1. Farmers at Mountain Tugel (proposed sites), Banyumas District
2. Yayasan BABAD Purwokerto

The project is managed by a 3-person team of BABAD led by Akhmad Solehudin, its Program Coordinator. The project will ensure women?s participation in both project management and fieldwork. BABAD and the people of each site will jointly own the project. The mutual ownership includes the decision-making process, financing the project and associated risks, data and information generated by the project, and financial benefit from the business activities generated by the project.
