Consumers Education on Ecological Farming: Improvement of Informing and Communication
The project aims to develop and deepen the consumers? knowledge on the ecological farming products and enhance their consciousness through provision of information on organic farming products and improving communication between sellers and consumers.
Planned project activities and expected results:
1. A research on marketing of organic farming and its products will be carried out. Recommendations on presenting of ecological products to consumers will be implemented in big supermarkets. The grantee will seek for the written agreements with heads of supermarkets on implementation of these recommendations. The research will help to improve provision of information to consumers too.
2. A round table discussion ? seminar ?How to improve communication between sellers and consumers on organic farming products? will be organized for representatives of about 30 stakeholders? organizations. The participants will be introduced with organic farming marketing problems (on the basis of the completed marketing research). Lithuanian Consumer Institute will seek for the Cooperation Agreement with 3 largest supermarket networks (?IKI?, ?MAXIMA?, ?RIMI?) on better marketing of organic farming products.
3. A consumers? education campaign-action will be organized in one of the supermarkets (Akropolis). 32 visual information measures (tents and stands) promoting certified Lithuanian and EU ecological products? labels will be produced and placed in the shop for 6 month period. It is expected that about 400,000 consumers will be informed on ecological products.
4. It is also planed that 2 TV reportages on ecological products will be prepared.
The project implementation will involve many and various stakeholders: state institutions (Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Health, Nutrition Centre), Parliament (Committee of Rural Affairs, Committee of Health Affairs), representatives of NGOs, ecological farming cooperatives and farmers (consumer associations and environmental NGOs, Tatula Programme, association of ecological farming ?Gaja? ? including SGP grantees), and representatives of supermarkets? networks.
