Protection of ant in forest ecosystems of Romnica Primeval Forest Landscape Park
Ants are a crucial element in forest ecosystem, but knowledge about their protection is very low.
It is a pilot project; until now the topic was not covered by NGO/CBO and any well planned and organized efforts were conducted;methods of protection and supported parallel research and monitoring will enable a model solution for whole entire Poland how to deal with protected ants (listed on the Red List ,protected by law in Poland) how to protect them actively.Existing law does not refer to species distribution, so foresters are not aware if ants in their area are protected. endangered etc.
Wide distribution of educatinal materials, organisation of conference in May 2006, theoretical part linked to site-visit and demonstration of the best practices in the field. Trainings for foresters and services of Forest departments and landscape Park are to be organized.
A strong educatuional component is devoted to dissemination of information and knowledge on importance of ants in forest ecosystem, what should bring lower devastation of ant hills.
