Project development Goal:

To rehabilitate community?s livelihood and natural resources after the Tsunami and Earthquake disaster in Small Awe Village

Project Objectives:

1. To increase local communities organizational capacity
2. To revitalize traditional law by reactivating traditional institutions in the village governance structure
3. To develop the micro-finance system
4. To develop environment friendly natural resources management
5. To implement coastal rehabilitation

Expected output:

1. Formation of a solid community?s group in executing after disaster?s rehabilitation programs
2. Formation of a solid traditional institutions as a guide in community?s living management
3. Establishment of micro-finance institutions to enhance the growth of community?s economic
4. Establishment of environment friendly natural resources management
5. Creation of coastal rehabilitation programs

Activities to be conducted:

A. Increasing capacity of community group?s organizational capacity:
1. Village Meeting
2. Sub district Meeting
3. District Meeting
4. Strengthening existing groups (farmers, fishermen) by giving assistance
5. Regular Meeting with the groups

B. Revitalizing traditional laws:
1. Documenting traditional law by recollecting data and information from various villages
2. Meeting with Gampong until District level to have the verification and legalization

C. Developing micro-finance system
1. Creating micro-finance institutions
2. Training for institutional management
3. Providing save and loan facility and also target market for village product

D. Developing environment friendly natural resources management:
1. Providing plant seeds for farming and plantation
2. Providing equipment for farming and plantation
3. Developing organic agriculture demplot
4. Training on organic farming and the making process of organic fertilizer
5. Planting garden plant with wana-tani system
6. Providing boats and tools for catching fish

E. Executing Coastal Rehabilitation
1. Planting shield trees around the coastal
2. Maintaining the trees

F. Monitoring and evaluation:
1. Monitoring

Project Participants and/or beneficiaries:

1. Small Awe Village community, Simeleu Island (66 household)
2. Yayasan Banau
3. Yayasan Pengembang Kawasan (YPK)

This project is managed by Yayasan Banau (Banau Foundation), an association for activist which involved in the relief efforts. It was lead by Sarlimawati as the Director. The project will guarantee woman participations, both in the management and also in implementation of field projects. Yayasan Banau, Yayasan Pengembang Kawasan (YPK) and also all communities in each location are eligible to own this project together. This joint-owner system includes decision making process, project budget arrangement and its risks, data and information gathered from the project, and financial benefit from the business run by the project.
