Vrindavan Kuda Prabhandan Pariyojana
The local community of Vrindavan established Friends of Vrindavan (FoV) in 1997. It was setup to deal with waste management and the declining forests. The organization is well-known for its cleaning drives. The town of Vrindavan has been facing extreme problems in waste management. The existing municipal sanitation system is not able to cope up with the rising issues and there is no attempt at recycling. The problems are aggravated because of the large number of pilgrims who visit the town, as Vrindavan is a very popular pilgrim destination for the Hindus. In such a situation the goal of the project is to improve and systemize the garbage collection system with MSW delivery to centralized sites where Vermi composting, organic composting and recycling can be implemented. The specific objectives of the project are to construct 5 satellite garbage ramp facilities in a ring around Vrindavan. This will cut down the unload time cycle; improve productivity and the quantum of WSM collected. Woven baskets and bins will be produced from recycled plastic bags through community participation. Items will be marketed and sold and profits returned to FoV projects. Identification of households and other stakeholders, forming of groups and employing workers are essential to reach the project objectives.
