Sustainable Use and Management of Resources in Forest Buffer areas for Improved Livelihoods
Sustainable Use and Management of Resources in Forest Buffer areas for Improved Livelihoods
Improving sustainable natural resource management is a project that was concieved by BECA through a participatory process. It is designed to apply collaborative management techniques in the promotion of its activities.

The project area is an enclave between Kalinzu forest, Kasyoha Kitomi forest, Maramagambo forests and Queen Elizabeth National Park. The landscape is hilly and punctuated with numerous crater lakes. BECA is a community based organisation spearheading rural based innovative environmental management initiatives in Bunyaruguru County.

The project aims at promoting sustainable organic farming practices in the area so as to ensure sustainable utilization and enhancement of soil and land management in the hilly landscape. It also tries to mobilize and motivate rural communities to conserve biodiversity in the natural forests and introduce alternative livelihood options such as beekeeping, animal rearing to increase household incomes of the local community thus reducing human pressure on the forest resources.

The GEF focal area addressed is biodiversity conservation of forest ecosystems and buffer areas.
The project expects increased community awareness, sustainable land management, biodiversity conservation, reduced pressure on forest resources, improved household incomes and livelihoods.

The project partners include Bushenyi district local government. The community is actively involved in the promotion of project activities.
